- (September, 2016) 100mb vdsl have been added in the fleet, now total 4 vdsl in running giving around 380-390 mb
- (06/09/2011) PTCL vDSL 50 mbhave been deployed at my EX Network [aacable.net Gulistan-e-Jauhar]
(I left this network in year 2008, for any updated information, please contact Mr Jahangir at email thestrangereyes@hotmail.com)
This is the first network in Karachi where ptcl 50Mb vdsl connection have been deployed successfully 🙂 Alhamdolillah. (Later in Sep, 2016 4 more 100mb vdsl have been added)
Its working great so far. Following are screenshots of its working. I did some downloads and was able to get 45mb-48Mb constant.
You can also see the speedtest.net type website result , but don’t trust speedtest.net because they are not a reliable source for testing, also people are caching it using SQUID, therefore I recommend you not to trust on these speed test type website. Do your own testing by downloads various big files using IDM simultaneous and then see the download ratio.
Remember, Don’t assume that after getting 50Mb, you or your users will become SUPERMAN or SPIDER MAN 🙂 , latency and other things will remain same, only the capacity of loading so many passengers at a time in your BUS will increase, I hope you will understand.

Its working fine so far. once it synchronize , it works good.
Actually it mainly depends on your telephone exchange infrastructure, distance from exchange, telephone DB , wire conditions etc.

Brother can You give me pdf manual for Huawei HG622u or which ever modem is being used. And how they are handling 2 pairs of copper wires?

Comment by Muhammad Ismail — September 14, 2011 @ 10:11 PM
You can get the Huawei manual from there website as PTCL is not providing any manual. To set it up, you can use there Help line, usually it is pre configured by PTCL.
At some places, single copper wire is used , at backend they are using OLIO fiber module.

this is actually megabits ……. the speed in megabytes would probably be 6 megabytes per second if you get 48megabit per second …..right?

Yes , This is why I used ‘Mb’ , the small b , which indicated “mega bit’ ,
if it was MegaByte, then MB sign is used.
When we talk about internet bandwidth, MegaBit is always used.
& when we talk about local data movement/Download Speed, we usually use MEGA BYTES (MB), KILOBYTES (KB), which is a friendlier version for user end as
user sees it on there screen when they download any thing from internet.
Generally – Bits are used to talk about data transfer rates (1 kilobit = 1000 bits), while bytes are used to talk about storage size calculations (1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes). So when your Internet provider offers you a 1Mb connection, its megaBits not MegaBytes. So for a rough guide of how MUCH you can download, divide by eight. i.e. 1Mb speed = 128KB of data. “

Can you share speedtest.net results here?
and also traceroute to google.com for checking latency?

your last paragraph means i need a download accelerator for getting full speed right ? on single connection it will restrict me on some speed ? did you try DMZ on it is it working fine ? and is there 50GB download limit on it ?
Thanks for your great post 🙂

There is no download limit/quota on 50Mb Package.
I didn’t understand what you meant by “did you try DMZ on it is it working fine ”
DMZ is used to protect any server by putting it behind any firewall/gateway to protect it from direct access. How it is related with 50mb dsl ?

Dear Syed,
You have a nice blog with lots of unique information 🙂 Your post about the Huawei HG622 is especially interesting.
The HG622, supplied by PTCL, is a very nice device. Much nicer than the VDSL2 modem supplied by British Telecom here in England.
There is interest in unlocking the HG622 and for building custom firmware for it, for better performance and line diagnostics, etc.
Some things that may interest, Syed – PCB photos of the HG622, datasheets, and a firmware dump (of the ChinaTel f/w)

sir i want to know about strength of single modem or line which provide 50mb speed.
suppose normally when we use 4mb from ptcl it handles 30-40 users of 512Kb approx. So,
can 50mb vdsl modem handles 300 users on just single modem ?
if yes from above question
can single cable line handles the 1000`s of connection request from 300 users ?
i am waiting for your expereienceful reply

Its the fault of modem bro. replace it.
or use other workarounds like try to use modem in bridge mode, and do the wan dialing from the mikrotik itself.
If above still dont work , then at mikrotik use wifi to connect with the dsl modem, this way you will bypass lan of modem, and it will continue to work with the wifi as its wan gateway.

Internet connection speed matter to work in this fast era. It counts as Donwload speed and Upload speed. Internet speed for downloading is the speed that send you files, data from remote server. ISP’s normally promote their high download speed. Upload speed is the speed that you can send data, files etc, to remote server. Internet speed test can determine your exact speed of connection.
