Howto Disabe IPV6 in FEDORA 10

Howto To disable IPV6 in FEDORA 10 :)~

Issue the following commands in terminal, (You must be logged in as root)

su -c 'echo "install ipv6 /bin/true
blacklist ipv6" > /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ipv6.conf'

su -c 'service ip6tables stop && chkconfig ip6tables off'

After making these changes reboot your system. Then check your interface card by


You will notice that you IPV6 lines have been gone 🙂

  1. Out of curiosity, why are you disabling IPv6? Is it causing actual problems?

    This just means one more place to re-enable IPv6, once your ISP offers IPv6 services.

    • I deployed Ubuntu ver 9.10 Karmic koala at various ISP and faced issue with ipv6 enabled. Internet Works very slow and breaksup frequently, After disabling ipv6 , Everything worked perfect and I tested it several times.
      So I usually disables ipv6 and keep reference by writing article on it. In our country ipv6 is not used so its better to off load un necessary services from the server.
