Following is an short guide on howto enable web mail on IBM Lotus Domino server. I wrote this so that I don’t have to google the whole world again just to enable web login. Wouldn’t it be nice if IBM put ‘Enable Web Login’ box in the configuration tab , After all we all love being Lazy 😉
By default when you first open your domino server web address in your browser, you may see following screen.
To enable web mail login page, Follow the below steps
Create DOMCFG
Open Domino Administrator,
Goto Files
Create new application by going to File menu > Application > New
In Server , select your domino server,
In Title, name it domcfg
In ‘Specify Template for new application‘ Server> , select your domino server
Click on ‘Show Advance Templates‘
In ‘Template‘ click on ‘Domino web server configuration (8)‘
As showed in the image below . . .
Click n OK. and ‘domcfg – Sign In Form Mappings‘ will appear.
Click on ADD Mapping
In Target Database, Type iwaredir.nsf
In Target Form, Type dwaLoginForm
Click on Save & Close
Create IWAREDIR
Now Create another new application by going to File menu > Application > New
In Server , select your domino server,
In Title, name it iwaredir
In ‘Specify Template for new application‘ Server, select your domino server
Click on ‘Show Advance Templates‘
In ‘Template‘ click on ‘IBM Lotus iNotes Redirect‘
As showed in the image below . . .
Click on OK and ‘IBM Lotus iNotes Rediect Setup‘ will appear.
As showed in the image below .. .
Here you can define few things like users options, seconds to delay before redirecting to inbox, light mode selection, color , logo and few other things. Click on Save & Exit.
Redirect Default web to iwaredir.nsf
Now goto Domino Administrator configuration tab select the
Server Document > Current Server Document > Internet Protocol > HTTP tab
Select Mapping , and in HOME URL type following
/iwaredir.nsf?Open
Now goto
Domino Web Engine tab in session authentication Select Single Server
Click Save & Close.
Now from console restart HTTP Server by issuing following command
tell http restart
Now from client end, try opening your web mail by entering domino ip or name in browser. You will see login screen.
As showed in the image below .. .
hmmm it looks fine, but you can change this login screen to something more sophisticated look. You can further customize it to show nice Login form.
Changing Login FORM
To do this goto FILES , double click on domcfg , Click on Edit Mapping
As showed in the image below .. .
in Target Database , type
iwaredir.nsf
in Target Frame , type
dwaLoginForm
Click on Save & Close.
Restart HTTP server and try again to access the lotus web server. & you will some nice login from.

Howto change iNotes Logo in redirection screen
When you configure iNotes, and after entering id password, you will see the redirecting screen. You can enter your company logo here or some other fun things, like public service announcements and other things. You cal also configure how long this redirect page should stay in UI setup of iwaredir.nsf
# To add logo , open Domino Admin , Goto Files, Double click on iwaredir.nsf ,
# in UI Setup, change the text you like to display , like welcome msg.
# in Custom Logo for Browser, copy paste the logo file (Make sure its small in size and width/height, mine was 100 x 50), to copy paste, simply right click on your logo file, and paste it in this field.
# You can also configure how long this page should stay on user screen before moving to inbox.
As shoed in the image below . . .
An example of my redirection page which stays for about 4 seconds on the screen . . .
Howto redirect to specific site after user logs out
If you want that when user logsout from iNotes, he should be redirected to your portal/web site.

Hi Syed Jahanzaib,
I follow your posts on Microtik router and lotus Domino. I also maintain or try to maintain both and is very keen in it. But recently I am facing a issue with Domino and have no clue on it. I have a primary domino server 8.5.3 where the mail files of all user resides and inotes is also enable. So user can access their mails from Notes as well as inotes also. But due to hard disk space constraint, I need to set server archival policy on mails whose size is more than 3 GB and the archives are kept on a separate archive server. Now user can access their archive mails from notes, if I configure a separate connection document, without any issue. But if the same user tries to view its archive mail from inotes, by logging into the mail server from web browser, then the archive mail does not open in another browser, while the main mail opens. The error comes, ” files or directory does not exist”, though the path for the archive.nsf file it shows in the URL of the address bar is correct, along with the proper host name of the archive server.
Requesting you to please help me out as I cannot restrict users mail size quota and running out of disk space.
Thanks in advance….
Samrat Banerjee.

Hi Syed. I’ve searched your blog and cannot find a topic on adding a second factor to iNotes webmail access. Have you done that or have you seen somewhere on the web that outlines how to do this? All I’ve found is creating a DSAPI plug-in for Domino. I’m using Domino / Notes 9.0.1 Social.
